More About Us
Who We Are
I think our dream of starting a farm was born from our desire to be more self-reliant and our love of being outdoors. We want to provide healthy fresh food for ourselves (and y’all too) and depend less on the grocery store.
We wanted to share this journey with you. We want to be open about all aspects of our start up and our daily lives. We know we will do some things really well and we know there will inevitably be things we fail at the first time around.
We hope this page is entertaining and educational whether you’re looking to start your own farm, enjoy a backyard garden, or just enjoy reading funny stories about other people’s trials. We hope you follow us as we learn about canning and preserving food, developing new recipes, raising livestock, and living a simple, self-reliant life.
Kevin Corbett
I was born and raised in Alabama. I grew up north of Huntsville, and while I did not live on a farm, I spent many summers on my grandmother's farm in Southern Mississippi.
I am very mechanically inclined and I can figure out how to do most anything.
I really enjoy cooking and experimenting with my own sauces and spices.
I enjoy working on old cars and trucks. Everything from engine work to paint and body.
Other hobbies and interests include riding motorcycles, rodeo, hockey, football, baseball, and basketball.
Kayla Corbett
I grew up in West Virginia, and Kevin and I met when we lived in Auburn, Alabama. I now consider myself a real southerner, even though I don't like sweet tea or grits (ew!).
I have always been around gardens. Every year my grandparents would plant and I'd spend my summers snapping beans and fighting with my cousins over who got to collect their eggs.
I am a natural-born over-planner and I tend to get a thought and run with it. Luckily, Kevin tolerates this and supports me in all my crazy ideas.
I love this life. I love growing our little farm, and growing my skills, and myself as a person. I'm a self-proclaimed nerd and I want to learn ALL THE THINGS. I love that every day brings me a new learning adventure.
Other hobbies and interests include knitting/crocheting, yoga, hockey, sailing, and musicals.
